Corps Member Brutality in Katsina: NYSC releases statement
The NYSC Management has released an official statement as regards the trending publication on national dailies and online blogs titled: YOUTH CORPS MEMBER ALLEGES BRUTALITY IN KATSINA.
the statement reads:
The attention of the NYSC Management has been drawn to a publication with the above caption published in the online version of a national daily and an online blog.
The publication quotes facebook post of one Ikenna Maduabuchi who claimed that a female Corps member had her finger chopped off while another one, a male, was injured on the head by some hoodlums in Katsina.
We wish to inform the public that immediately the news of the incident broke out, the NYSC Coordinator in Katsina State visited the scene, a rented compound at Sabuwa Unguwa, Kofar Kaura in Katsina Local Government Area.
However, his findings showed that, though four Corps members lived in the compound, none of them was hurt or targeted by the attackers.
As a matter of fact, the wounded, according to his findings, are Dorcas Negede and Mr. Benjamin M. – an NCE holder, who teaches in a private school in the area and a student of Isa Kaita College of Education respectively.
Notwithstanding the facts of the incident, the Coordinator directed the immediate evacuation of the Corps members from the compound as well as made a formal report to the police so as to guarantee their safety.
Management wishes to assure parents, guardians and other members of the public that all Corps members in Katsina are safe just as we remain committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure their continued security.
